Some badges produced using a design by Michael Carchrie Campbell of the Tinsel Box team. The badges are circular 58mm in diameter and were designed to incorporate the mathematical equals sign as well as the text: “Christians who want Equal Marriage”
Speaking about the design, Michael said:
The brief was simple, create a design for a badge to show that same-sex marriage is a Christian aspiration, not to be too wordy, and to have an element of fun. Someone suggested the text ‘Christians for Equal Marriage’ but when I started work on that I realised that the word ‘for’ didn’t quite get the message across. Wanting something is much more powerful than simply being ‘for’ it. So I used the text Christians who want Equal Marriage.
The two colours used for the text are white and yellow which, in heraldry, are considered to be the metals argent and or. In the arms of the Kingdom of Jersusalem and the flag of the Holy See they are used on top of each other, which breaks the general heraldic rule of no colour on a colour nor a metal on a metal.
Thus the text in yellow and white is placed on a maroon background with two lines representing the mathematical equals sign (=) surrounding the word ‘Equal’ in blue.
